Mykhailo Mudryk has passed a lie detector test in an effort to clear his name amid doping accusations, according to reports.
The Chelsea player is currently suspended while awaiting results from a urine sample that tested positive for the prohibited substance meldonium.
Mudryk transferred from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk two years ago, and the CEO of his former team stated that the player underwent a polygraph test arranged by his legal team.
Sergei Palkin said: "I have discussed this doping matter with Mudryk multiple times.
"He is baffled about how it occurred. He has no understanding or idea at all.
"As a result, his lawyers arranged for him to take a lie detector test, which he passed. This will be included as evidence to demonstrate he did not intentionally violate any rules.
"Mudryk maintains that the positive test was not his fault. We must now investigate how this happened and identify those responsible. His legal team is working on it."
Inadvertently consuming banned substances does not serve as a defense, and Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years.
He has not played since November 28 last year, when he scored for Chelsea against Heidenheim in the Conference League.
Traces of meldonium were found in a routine urine sample taken during international duty.
Palkin acknowledged that his club supports Mudryk because they are still due payments from the transfer deal, which could reach £88 million with performance-based add-ons, but only if he plays regularly.
The 24-year-old Mudryk has stayed out of the public eye since the drugs test failure was reported. He has not appeared at Chelsea's training ground for months.
Ukrainian football has faced significant challenges due to the 2022 invasion by Russia, leaving many clubs in financial difficulty.
Palkin told GiveMeSport: "The B-sample results are still pending, so the situation remains unresolved. No one knows what truly happened. I wish Mudryk the best. He is a top professional and a great person who deserves protection.
"Shakhtar has a financial stake in this. Bonuses from his transfer to Chelsea are tied to his performances.
"If he does not play, it could cost us up to €30 million (£25 million). So, Shakhtar, Chelsea, and Mudryk are all in this together. We all stand by Mudryk and hope he can return to playing football soon.
"The sale of Mudryk to Chelsea was a vital transaction for us.
"Without that fee, I am unsure how we would have addressed numerous pressing issues."
