Arsenal are in talks with Thomas Partey over a new two-year contract, according to reports.

Manager Mikel Arteta is eager for the 31-year-old star, whose current contract expires in the summer, to remain at the Emirates Stadium.

Partey was expected to leave Arsenal as a free agent in just over two months.

However, his outstanding performances in recent months have led Arteta to reconsider whether to let the midfielder go.

The Ghana international is happy at Arsenal, and his family enjoys living in London, according to The Athletic.

He is open to an improved two-year agreement or a one-year deal with an option to extend for another 12 months.

Partey has played in multiple positions for Arteta's injury-plagued team this season, despite his own injury setbacks.

In addition to his usual defensive midfield role, he has started at right-back due to injuries to Ben White and centre-back Gabriel, with Jurrien Timber also adapting positions.

He has become an integral part of Arteta's strongest lineup, making 45 appearances this season.

If not for Declan Rice's impressive free-kicks, Partey would have been a strong candidate for Man of the Match in Arsenal's Champions League quarter-final first leg, a 3-0 win over Real Madrid earlier this month.
