According to ESPN, Kevin De Bruyne is scheduled to begin talks with Napoli next week for a free agent move to the newly crowned Serie A champions, declining an offer from Chicago Fire FC in the MLS.
The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder will make his final appearance for Manchester City against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, as the club has chosen not to extend his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite his key contributions to Manchester City's six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League victory since his £55 million transfer from VfL Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne was informed last month that no new contract would be offered when his current one expires at the end of June.
Although De Bruyne expressed a desire to stay with the club, he has attracted interest from teams in the Premier League, Germany, and the MLS, particularly Chicago Fire. Sources confirm that he has decided to accept an offer from Napoli, who secured the Serie A title with a 2-0 home win against Cagliari on Friday.
No agreement has been reached with Napoli yet, and formal discussions will only occur after the conclusion of Manchester City's Premier League season.
De Bruyne is expected to join his Belgian teammate Romelu Lukaku at the Diego Maradona Stadium, choosing Napoli for reasons related to football and family. Negotiations are anticipated to proceed smoothly.
