'Not a lot of quality!' - Ruben Amorim didn't hold back in his assessment of Man Utd as coach. He admitted that the Red Devils are facing a 'long journey' after their second successive defeat.
Amorim said that his Manchester United side were lacking in quality as they slid to a 3-2 home defeat against Nottingham Forest.
United gave away the first goal in just the second minute because Lisandro Martinez didn't mark the corner well, and Andre Onana made a mistake when Morgan Gibbs-White scored for Forest in the second minute of the second half after Rasmus Hojlund equalised. The goalkeeper made a mistake when he flapped at Chris Wood's header, which proved to be the eventual winner. Bruno Fernandes managed to pull one back for the Red Devils, but he was taken off.
Amorim told BBC Sport: "Tough game. We started really bad, the first play we suffered a goal and then it's hard to try to fight. We then controlled the game and had a lot of situations. We improved the movement in the last third. We managed to draw the game and then at half-time we were ready to go for the win and then started really bad. Two goals. Then we tried a lot of things with not a lot of quality. We didn't have many situations to score."
Amorim had a strong start as United boss, winning two of his first three games since taking over from Erik ten Hag. However, he has since lost to Arsenal and Forest, and now has just four points from his first Premier League matches – the same as the Dutchman earned from his final four league games in charge.
The Portuguese said: "Tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job. This is a long journey. We are improving in some aspects. We have to win games to help us improve the team. We are in the start of something so big that we pay attention to every detail. We already know it's a big job so we have to continue."
The coach will be looking for a big response from his players in United's next game, away to Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League on Thursday. Next Sunday, Amorim will get his first taste of a local Premier League derby when United visit Manchester City. The Red Devils are looking to improve upon a dismal run of three successive defeats at the Etihad Stadium.
