Everton will not be hit by points deductions this season after the second part of a complaint against the club by the Premier League under its profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) was discontinued.
The Toffees were docked a total of eight points last season – six in relation to breaching PSR for the three seasons up to the 2021-22 season and two linked to their 2022-23 submission.
The independent commission which handed down the two-point penalty deferred a resolution of one aspect of the club’s dispute with the Premier League – concerning the accounting treatment of stadium-related interest payments – to a later date.
However, Everton revealed on Friday that the whole matter was now closed and confirmed the club would face no PSR complaint in relation to their 2023-24 submission either.
“After considering the further information and documents provided by the club in detail, the Premier League board has concluded it would not be appropriate or proportionate to continue to pursue the second part of their complaint,” a joint statement from the club and the league read.
“The club and the league agree that this brings to an end all proceedings between the league and the club in relation to the club’s breaches of the PSR for the financial years ending 30 June 2022 and 30 June 2023.”
