Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has spoken about becoming a manager in the future. The attacker, now 37-years-old, spoke to Fabrizio Romano in which he was asked about his future.
Despite the player being a key element of Inter Miami’s attack this season, injuries have hampered his ability to participate fully in the season, with teammates taking on the responsibility of propelling the side to the top of the Eastern Conference in MLS.
‘I don’t think I want to be a coach’
“I don’t think I want to be a coach after I retire“, Messi admitted, ”but I’m not sure of what I want to do in the future."
Messi‘s contract with the MLS club runs until 2025, and there is already plenty of speculation as to whether or not he will continue at Inter Miami, move elsewhere or hang up his boots.
As for how he feels about the future, the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner stuck to his line of having fun and living in the present day: “I value a lot more than before everything I do daily, so the only thing that I’m thinking about is playing, training and enjoying myself.”

He also spoke about participating in the 2026 World Cup, to be held across the US, Canada and Mexico.
“The truth is that I don’t know, I have been asked several times, especially in Argentina. I hope to have a good end of the season and then a good preseason, something I didn’t have last season because of all the traveling we did."
“From then on”, he added, “I want to see what happens, to see how I feel. A lot of things always happen in football. There’s still a long way to go, so I’m not thinking too much about it. I’m going to live day by day without thinking too much about the future.”
