Four years on from his shock departure, Lionel Messi retains a close bond with FC Barcelona. He is the team’s record scorer, a ten-time LaLiga champion and four-time Champions League winner. Messi will forever have a place at Camp Nou, but his actual place is currently up for sale.

The locker used by Messi is available to bid on at auction and has already reached an eye-watering figure. The locker was used by the Argentine from his first team debut in 2004/05 to his final season in 2020/21. The locker features a huge picture of Messi and comes complete with the bench. Auctioneers Goldin even writes that the piece features “the remnants of Messi’s cleat marks”.

How much is Lionel Messi’s locker worth?

At time of writing, the top bid for Lionel Messi’s Barcelona locker sits at $300,000, however there’s an additional 22% in bidder’s fee for the lucky winner to face. That takes the total cost to an eye-watering $366,000.

And that figure will rise even further, with the auction set to continue until Thursday, February 13. So far there have been six bids. Messi’s locker is the most high-profile of a huge club-wide auction called the ‘Memorabilia project’ that comes as Barcelona approach the end of their Camp Nou renovation. With the the iconic stadium getting a major remodelling there are a number of items up for sale, including some other, slightly less-heralded lockers.

There are a total of 28 items currently at auction. A locker previously used by the likes of Diego Maradona, Pep Guardiola and Gerard Piqué is currently second in the standings with a total price of $158,600. There’s also lockers used by Ronaldinho, Neymar Jr and Luis Suárez in the mix, as well as a chunk of artificial turf from the pitch-side technical area and a quartet of match-used corner flags.

“Lockers used by players from over the years, the penalty spots from the pitch as well as corner flags and the club badges in front of the dugouts will all be up for auction,” the club website says. “Available to whoever wishes to have a little part of Barça history.”
