Barcelona are set to make some changes to their goalkeeping department in the summer transfer window as part of their plans to strengthen the squad for the future.
With Wojciech Szczesny gaining prominence under Hansi Flick, the Pole is likely to be handed a new one-year contract to keep him at the club beyond this season.
It is likely to lead to the departure of Inaki Pena, who wants to be a regular starter and is attracting interest from Turkey, England, and Spain.
As for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, his injury recovery is progressing well but there is no guarantee about the level he will perform at once he returns given the lengthy absence while also going through a challenging personal period that could impact his performances.
As a result, Barcelona sporting director Deco is looking for a long-term solution to the goalkeeping position and has identified Lille custodian Lucas Chevalier as a target, reports Fichajes.
At just 23 years old, the French goalkeeper is considered one of the brightest prospects in his position.
His performances in Ligue 1 have put him on the radar of several European giants, including Real Madrid, who views him as a potential successor to Thibaut Courtois.
Chevalier is under contract with Lille until 2027, and his market value is estimated at around €30 million – a figure Barcelona hopes to negotiate to finalise his signing.
The Catalan giants have already initiated contact with Chevalier’s representatives, aiming to get ahead of the competition and secure his transfer.
Barcelona’s objective is to strengthen the goalkeeping department with a long-term solution, and Chevalier appears to be rated as the ideal candidate to take on that role at Camp Nou.
