European Championship winner and World Cup finalist Earps is a big name in England and savoured FA Cup glory with Manchester United last season before deciding to spread her wings and head for France as a free agent.
PSG have already crashed out of the Champions League at the qualification stage, with Earps failing to impress during a 5-2 aggregate defeat to Alisha Lehmann and Juventus. She was benched for a league win over Guingamp and faces a fight with Hannah Hampton for starting duties in the England squad.
Earps’ shirt is not on display in the official PSG shops that grace the Champs-Elysees and Parc des Princes, with the 31-year-old failing to make the kind of splash in the French capital that many expected. Bruno Hermant, a PSG Women supporter and editor of the Culture PSG website, has told The Times of Earps: “For the people who follow women’s football, she is a big name. But for everyone else, I don’t know. I’m not sure that people really know her. She’s not like Jude Bellingham, that’s for sure.”
Earps’ debut season in France is already in danger of imploding, with Hermant adding on a campaign that no longer includes elite European competition: “We only have the French Cup and French championship. The big games are only the ones against Lyon and Paris FC. It’s going to be a very, very long season.”
PSG have Earps tied to a two-year contract, taking her through to the summer of 2026. She will hope to have had cause for celebration by the time those terms come to a close, but for now the challenges are stacking up.
