Bayern Munich are plotting major sales to fund their pursuit of Florian Wirtz as they look to beat Real Madrid and Manchester City to his signing.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern have identified Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz as a top priority for their long-term project. Known for his creativity, vision, and technical brilliance, Wirtz has become an integral player for both Leverkusen and the German national team. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, is leading the negotiations and reportedly has received an internal green light to pursue the transfer aggressively.
The prospect of pairing Wirtz with Jamal Musiala at the club level is particularly appealing to Bayern. The two young stars have already showcased excellent chemistry in the German national team, and Bayern hope to replicate that success domestically and in Europe.
However, acquiring Wirtz will not come easy. Leverkusen are reportedly determined to sell their prized asset to a foreign club, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also in the race. To secure Wirtz, Bayern must prepare a package worth up to €100 million (£83m/$104m), excluding additional bonuses or player exchanges.
Before making a formal offer, Bayern must generate funds through player sales. The club is under financial pressure to balance its books while competing with the financial might of Madrid and City. Selling key assets will likely be an essential step to making this ambitious transfer a reality.
Leverkusen hold a strong negotiating position, as Wirtz’s current contract runs until 2027. The Bundesliga club is under no pressure to sell and aims to keep Wirtz unless an irresistible offer is made. Their preference is to see him move abroad rather than strengthen a domestic rival like Bayern.
