Real Madrid will look to extend their title race for at least 24 hours when they take on Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday. After losing 4-3 in Sunday's El Clasico, Real Madrid trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by seven points, with the visitors ninth in Round 36.

Real Madrid's defeat at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday completely shattered their title hopes, as they are on the verge of handing the La Liga title to old rivals Barcelona. Mbappe scored twice in the opening 15 minutes to give Real Madrid a perfect start, but Real Madrid quickly lost the initiative in the first half as Barcelona scored four goals, including three in 13 minutes, to lead 4-2 into the halftime break. Mbappe scored in the 70th minute, becoming only the third player in the 21st century to score a hat-trick in La Liga, however, his brilliant performance ultimately did little as Real Madrid suffered their fourth El Clasico defeat of the season, trailing their opponents by seven points with just three games remaining. As such, if Real Madrid fail to beat Mallorca, they could hand the title to their rivals on Wednesday, while a win would at least keep their hopes alive for another 24 hours before their match against Catalan rivals Espanyol in Barcelona on Thursday.

While the title may be slipping away, Real Madrid remain eager to get results in their final three games against Mallorca, Sevilla and Real Sociedad, as they look to give Carlo Ancelotti a fitting send-off as he departs to become Brazil's new head coach, paving the way for Xabi Alonso to take over at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid will be looking to get maximum points going into Wednesday's game as they have won 14 of 17 home league games this season, including their most recent two home victories against Athletic Bilbao and Celta. They previously won all eight of their home games against Mallorca in La Liga, scoring 25 goals and keeping four clean sheets.

Mallorca ended a three-match losing skid with a narrow 2-1 win over relegated Valladolid and will head to the capital in positive spirits. Jagoba Arrasate's side came from behind to snatch three points from bottom of La Liga as Omar Mascarelli equalised Chuki's early opener before Sergi Dadel scored the winner to jump up from ninth place to level on 47 points with eighth-placed Rayo Vallecano.

Finishing eighth and qualifying for the league would be a major achievement for Arasate in his first season as Mallorca coach, but he may be looking to secure Europa League qualification as his side are just two points away from seventh-placed Celta Vigo. Unfortunately, two of Mallorca’s final three games will be away from home, which is not good for the team’s confidence as they have lost five of their previous eight away trips, including three 1-0 defeats in their last four away trips. This result ultimately resulted in Mallorca failing to score in eight of their 17 away games in La Liga this season - a record only bettered by Getafe and Real Sociedad. Mallorca lost 0-3 against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final last time out in Saudi Arabia, but they can take some inspiration from the fact that they drew 1-1 with Real Madrid in the reverse league match on the opening day of the season.

Real Madrid predicted starting lineup:

Courtois; Valverde, Asensio, Ramon, Garcia; Modric, Ceballos; Guler, Bellingham, Mbappe; Enderique

Mallorca predicted starting lineup:

Greve; Maffeo, Valjent, Raillo, Copete, Mojica; Sanchez, Mascarell, Costa, Darde; Larin
