Despite holding out for more than an hour, Equatorial Guinea eventually succumbed to the pressure and conceded two goals in the final 20 minutes to go down 2-0 to Algeria in the opening round of AFCON qualifying last Thursday.
Juan Micha's men have continued their poor away form, failing to win any of their last six away games, which include four defeats and two draws.
Having been knocked out of the 2023 AFCON in the round of 16, the Nzalang Nacional will be hoping to bounce back quickly as they look to make it to three successive finals for the first time in their history.
The next hurdle will come on home soil against Togo, a side they have beaten just once in six attempts, losing twice and drawing twice (the last two times).
The Nzalang Nacional have hosted Monday's opponents on two previous occasions - one in a friendly and the other in a World Cup qualifier - winning one and losing the other.
Togo will go into this match with a sense of what if, having failed to secure victory against Liberia on home soil last Friday despite leading into injury time.
Twenty-three-year-old Cercle Brugge striker Kevin Denkey gave the Sparrow Hawks the lead in the 79th minute, but a 92nd-minute strike from Liberia's Willie Gibson ensured a 1-1 draw.
Dare Nibombe's men have now failed to win any of their last four matches, including a 1-1 friendly draw with Libya, a 1-1 draw with South Sudan and a 1-0 loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo in a World Cup qualifier.
The top two teams in each group at the end of the AFCON qualifiers will earn a place in Morocco next year - and given Algeria's pedigree and quality, it could be a straight fight between Togo and hosts Equatorial Guinea for the other spot.
Togo last appeared at the 2017 AFCON in Gabon, where they finished bottom of Group C with one point from a possible nine, holding Côte d'Ivoire to a goalless draw in their opening game before losing to Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Equatorial Guinea possible starting lineup:
Owono; Ndong, Coco, Fernandez, Senra; Mascarell; Buyla, Ganet, Obiang, Salvador; Nlavo
Togo possible starting lineup:
Agbolossou; Djene, Boateng, Homawoo, Narey; Dername, Aholou, Aziangbe, Agbagno; Denkey, Laba
