Namibia were guilty of a lack of cutting edge in front of goal in their opening match against Cameroon on Saturday as they went down 1-0 to the Elephants at the Roumde Adjia Stadium.

After a goalless first half, veteran striker Vincent Aboubakar once again came to the rescue, breaking the deadlock in the 65th minute to give Cameroon all three points.

Namibia, who were humiliated 5-0 by Angola in the final of the 2024 COSAFA Cup on 7 July, have now lost back-to-back matches for the first time since October 2021, when they were beaten twice by Senegal in their World Cup qualifying double-header.

Collin Benjamin's side will now look to bounce back from their opening day disappointment and get their qualifying campaign back on track as they aim to qualify for back-to-back AFCONs for the first time.

Namibia booked their place in the knockout stages of the 2023 AFCON in January after taking four points from three matches in Group E to finish as one of the best third-placed teams, before going down 3-0 to Angola in the round of 16 on 27 January.

Kenya, on the other hand, are looking to make their first AFCON appearance since 2019 when they crashed out in the group stage after taking three points from a possible nine to finish third in Group C.

However, the Harambee Stars were denied a dream start to their quest for a place in Morocco on Friday when they were held to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe at the Mandela National Stadium.

It followed a heartbreaking run at the COSAFA Cup in July when Kenya were knocked out in the group stage despite taking six points from their three matches to finish second in Group B.

After Friday's result against Zimbabwe, Engin Firat's men are now unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, winning five and drawing three, scoring 17 goals and keeping six clean sheets since last November.

Kenya, 108th in the latest FIFA World Ranking, will have their work cut out at the Orlando Stadium against an opponent who have won four of the last six meetings between the two sides dating back to October 1996.
