Guinea had little to show for their spirited display against the Leopards of Congo DR as they went down 1-0 at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa on Friday night.

Edo Kayembe's opener on the half-hour mark proved to be the difference as interim boss Charly Paquille was left empty-handed in his first game in charge after replacing Kaba Diawara.

The defeat marked the first time the National Elephants have failed to find the back of the net in consecutive matches since winning three straight matches between March and June by a combined score of 13-2.

Having appeared in eight of the last 11 AFCON tournaments, Guinea have established themselves as regulars at this level, but a second qualifying defeat in as many matches could leave them with a mountain to climb in their quest to qualify for next year's event.

Tuesday's game in Yamoussoukro will be only the second time Guinea and Tanzania have met since a group-stage clash at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations three years ago.

Tanzania would have been frustrated not to have picked up maximum points in their AFCON qualifier against Ethiopia at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

Hemed Morocco's men were superb in defence as they kept their opponents off the scoresheet for the entire 90 minutes, but were unable to find the all-important goal at the other end to secure victory.

This is becoming an all-too-familiar story for the Taifa Stars, who have won just three games in 2024 despite keeping six clean sheets, largely due to their failure to score in six of their 11 outings.

Nevertheless, Tanzania have made a bright start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, taking six points from a possible nine to sit third in Group E, level on points with Niger and three behind Morocco.

One of three teams confirmed as hosts of the 2027 AFCON, Tuesday's visitors will have the opportunity to make three successive appearances on the continental stage after their early exit in Côte d'Ivoire earlier this year.
