Fresh from finishing third in the COSAFA Cup in their last international outing, Mozambique kicked off their AFCON qualifying campaign with an impressive point away to Mali on Friday.

Chiquinho Conde's men started brightly and were rewarded with a first-half lead through Geny Catamo, before Yves Bissouma equalised early in the second period.

After an underwhelming AFCON campaign earlier this year that ended in a group-stage exit, Os Mambas have now gone unbeaten in seven of their last eight matches.

That run has included back-to-back World Cup qualifying victories over Somalia and Guinea in June, and Mozambique currently have nine points from their four matches so far.

Ahead of next month's double-header against Group I's bottom side, Eswatini, the hosts will be eager to get back to winning ways on home soil to boost their chances of reaching back-to-back continental finals for the first time since 1998.

Guinea-Bissau made the most of home advantage in their opening match against Eswatini's Sihlangu Semnikati at the Estadio 24 de Setembro on Thursday, recording a narrow 1-0 victory.

Having failed to find the back of the net since March, midfielder Bura Nogueira was the unlikely match-winner for Luis Boa Morte's men, breaking the deadlock less than a quarter of an hour into the game.

After starting 2024 with five consecutive defeats between January and March, the Djurtus have now gone four matches unbeaten - two wins and two draws - to revive their World Cup qualifying campaign and make a bright start to the continental campaign.

The trip to Maputo, however, will be Guinea-Bissau's first away game in six months after four successive home matches, and it will be interesting to see how they fare on foreign soil.

Tuesday's visitors have lost their last four away games by a combined score of 13-4, with their last away win coming against Djibouti in November 2023.

Mozambique possible starting lineup:

Ernani; Langa, Reinildo, Mexer, Matola; Guima, Nene; Gildo, Santos, Catamo; Ratifo

Guinea-Bissau possible starting lineup:

Balde; Encada, Sangante, Djalo, Nanu; Banjaqui, Bura, Semedo, Dalcio; Dju, Jardel

Prediction:Mozambique 2-1 Guinea-Bissau
