Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins once again proved a thorn in Arsenal's side, scoring the equaliser in a 2-2 draw in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arsenal now have 44 points to Liverpool's 50 with a game in hand. Villa moved up a place to seventh.

Unai Emery's Villa arrived knowing that a repeat of last year's win would see them finish fourth, but Arsenal looked determined to keep Liverpool at bay.

Leandro Trossard was the catalyst for Arsenal, creating both goals in almost identical fashion.

In the 35th minute, he burst down the left and crossed for Martinelli, whose volley was tipped over the line by Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

Trossard fired a shot just over the bar before finding space on the left in the 55th minute and crossing low into the box, where Havertz timed his run well to fire past Martinez.

Villa did not start the second half, but halved the deficit when substitute Lucas Digne crossed for Tielemans, whose header beat David Raya.

Arsenal suddenly looked rattled and Tielemans hit the post with a shot.

Villa sensed the tension in the stadium and when Cash's sublime cross was met by the lurking Watkins, he volleyed high into the net before celebrating to the delight of the home fans.

Mikel Merino's effort deflects off of Kai Havertz's arm and just as Mikel Arteta's side thought they'd found a late winner, VAR disallows the goal! After VAR disallowed Arsenal's stoppage-time effort, the hosts almost won the game when Trossard's shot struck the post.
