Justin Kluivert scored a superb hat-trick as Bournemouth won 4-1 away to his father Patrick's former club Newcastle United in Saturday's early Premier League kick-off, ending the hosts' six-game winning run in the top flight.

Going into the rest of the weekend's fixtures, the win leaves Bournemouth sixth in the table on 37 points, behind fifth-placed Chelsea on goal difference, while Newcastle remain fourth on 38 points.

Bournemouth sounded a warning in the fourth minute when Martin Dúbravka was forced into a save by Dango Outtara, but there was little the goalkeeper could do to prevent Kluivert putting them ahead two minutes later.

The visitors' man-to-man press was causing Newcastle problems and when Bournemouth won possession high up the pitch, Antoine Semenyo found Kluivert, who slotted the ball past Dubravka.

Spurred on by the home crowd, Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes levelled the scores in the 25th minute, creating space around the penalty area before heading home Lewis Hall's corner.

Undeterred, Kluivert put his side back in front before the break and they continued to attack in the second half, keeping Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who had scored in his last eight Premier League games, at bay.

Outtara thought he had made it 3-1 for Bournemouth with a close-range finish in the 61st minute, but the ball was ruled out of play in the build-up and his side had to settle for a corner instead.

Newcastle occasionally threatened from distance but the visitors' defence remained solid and Kluivert, whose father scored a league goal at St James' Park during a spell with the Magpies in 2004-05, completed his hat-trick with a superb strike in second-half stoppage time.

"Our run is also beautiful, you know? And that's what we showed today, that we're here to make an impression, Bournemouth. So yeah, a lovely, lovely win today," Kluivert said, the match ball cradled under his arm and one eye on European football next season.

"I'm an ambitious person, we've got a lot of ambitious players in the team... we want to play Europe, we want to be the best that we can. And I think we show that also, so why not? Why not dream big? And let's see where we can end up," he said.
