Orioles could be a prime destination for 3-time All-Star hurler

The Baltimore Orioles let Corbin Burnes walk, and have been surprisingly stingy in regards to bringing in a replacement. But a trade for a relatively inexpensive starter could be just the ticket.

Moving forward without Burnes, the Orioles have reportedly looked at several options to replace their former staff ace.

However, general manager Mike Elias was unwilling to spend big in free agency despite being given a "green light" from ownership to do so, according to Ben Palmer of PitcherList.

Across the nation, the Seattle Mariners are reportedly very interested in moving starting pitcher Luis Castillo off their roster as the team already has four young stud hurlers to comprise the bulk of their rotation.

Mike Axisa of CBS Sports puts the two together in noting the Orioles as a prime trade partner for the services of the one-time staff ace of both the Mariners and Cincinnati Reds.

Castillo, who is in the midst of a five-year, $108 million contract, has been a rock in the Mariners rotation since 2022. The eight-year big-league veteran has a lifetime record of just 73-76 but has a career ERA of 3.56 with 1,331 total strikeouts.

He is also remarkably durable, averaging over 26 starts per season since making his big-league debut in 2017.

Signed through 2027 with a 2028 vesting option, Castillo is set to make between $24 and $25 million a season — not bad value given today's market.

While Castillo may no longer be "ace" material, landing him would go a considerable way toward salving an Orioles rotation that was seriously wounded by the loss of Burnes.
