Coupe de France | Round of 32

Stade Robert Diochon

Quevilly vs Angers

Match preview

Quevilly reached this stage of the French Cup with a penalty shoot-out win over Paris FC after a 1-1 draw in normal time, followed by a narrow 1-0 win over Liancourt Clermont and a 2-0 triumph over US Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu in their last outing in the competition.

Their latest cup triumph is part of a perfect run that also includes two wins in the Championnat National - a 2-1 victory over Concarneau and a 1-0 win over Versailles last Friday.

Reaching this stage of the Coupe de France for the second time in four years, Quevilly will be looking to avoid a repeat of their 3-1 defeat to Monaco in 2020-21 as they prepare to face another top-flight opponent.

The Red and Yellows, who are hoping to progress through this round for the first time since 2016-17, will draw inspiration from their perfect record against Angers in this competition, having beaten them twice on home soil.

Angers, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their recent success against the hosts, having won the last two meetings between the two sides - both in Ligue 2 in 2023-24 - before the clubs embarked on contrasting journeys.

While the hosts were relegated to the lower divisions, the Black and Whites were promoted to the top flight and currently sit 13th in Ligue 1.

Their return to the top flight has been a difficult one, with Angers going eight games without a win at the start of the season before finally getting back on track with a 4-2 win over Saint-Etienne on 26 October.

That breakthrough was followed by a shock 1-0 win over Monaco, but their next five outings yielded just one win, sandwiched between back-to-back defeats for both sides.

Les Scoistes have since found their stride, winning three in a row in all competitions, starting their cup run with a 1-0 win over Bobigny in the previous round, followed by 2-0 and 3-1 victories over Brest and Montpellier respectively in the league.

The visitors will be hoping to maintain that momentum on Wednesday as they look to reach the last 16 for the second time in three seasons.

Team News

Isaac Tshipamba will be the key player to watch, having scored a brace in Quevilly's previous cup outing to take his tally in the competition to five.

He is expected to retain his place in a potential two-man attack, probably alongside Yassin Fortune, as was the case last Friday.

Defender Kapokyeng Sylva, who scored the decisive goal in the last game, is likely to retain his place at right-back as they look to continue their good run of form.

The visitors will be without Sidiki Cherif (thigh injury) and Justin-Noel Kalumba (broken ankle), both of whom are expected to return later this month.

Angers will be relying on Esteban Lepaul to continue his fine form, with the striker scoring four times in his last three games, including the decisive goal that secured their place in this round of the French Cup.
