Coupe de France | Round of 32

Jan 15, 2025 at 5.30pm UK

Stade de l'Aube

Troyes vs Rennes

Match preview

The hosts currently sit 15th in Ligue 2 with 21 points from 18 games, just six points above 16th-placed Caen, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.

Troyes have never won the Coupe de France and although they have won their last three games in the competition, they have lost their previous six.

Stephane Dumont was appointed coach in mid-August after David Guion was sacked before the club's first league game of the season following his suspension.

Dumont's side are in good form overall, having won three of their last four matches - losing one - and keeping a clean sheet in each of those victories.

Troyes are unbeaten in their last five home games - three wins and two draws - but have lost four of their last six Coupe de France games at the Stade de l'Aube.

Rennes' opponents are also struggling to avoid the drop, sitting 14th in Ligue 1 with 17 points after 17 rounds of matches, just one point above 16th-placed Saint-Etienne, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.

Manager Jorge Sampaoli took over from former boss Julien Stephan and has only been in charge of the club since 11 November.

To Sampaoli's credit, although his side have lost four times during his tenure, he has managed to win three of his seven games in charge, as many as the Red and Black had won in their previous 10.

It is also worth noting that Rennes have conceded 25 goals in the top flight, the best defensive record of any team in the bottom 10.

However, the visitors' away record is worrying, having been beaten in eight of their last 10 away games, although they have won five of their last six away games in the Coupe de France.

Team News

Troyes could name a similar starting line-up to the one that beat Metz, with goalkeeper Zacharie Boucher likely to be protected by centre-backs Adrien Monfray and Michel Diaz.

Abdoulaye Kante could form the base of a three-man midfield alongside Youssouf M'Changama and Mouhamed Diop, while Renaud Ripart could spearhead the home side's attack.

The visitors will be without defender Alidu Seidu for the remainder of the season, and his absence could mean that Hans Hateboer, Leo Ostigard and Mikayil Faye form a back three on Wednesday.

Winger Andres Gomez and striker Henrik Meister are likely to be sidelined for a few more weeks, so expect Ludovic Blas and Albert Gronbaek to support striker Arnaud Kalimuendo.

Possible starting lineup

Troyes possible starting lineup:

Boucher; Mendes, Monfray, Diaz, Gozzi; M'Changama, Kante, Diop; Irie, Ripart, Said

Rennes possible starting lineup:

Gallon; Hateboer, Ostigard, Faye; Assignon, James, Matusiwa, Truffert; Blas, Gronbaek; Kalimuendo
