Marseille can secure second place in Ligue 1 with a win over Rennes in their final game of the 2024-25 season at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday evening. Paris Olympique will be looking to complete their first league double since the 2006-07 season after beating the Rossoneri 2-1 at Parc de Roasson in January.

After two seasons away from the Champions League, Marseille have already secured their place in Europe's top flight for the 2025-26 campaign, having secured a top-three finish in Ligue 1 with a 3-1 away win over Le Havre last weekend. In a tense final five minutes, Paris Olympique was tied 1-1 with their opponents until top scorer Mason Greenwood scored his 20th goal of the season to put the visitors ahead, before Amin Gouiri sealed the win with his second goal of the game in stoppage time.

Roberto De Zerbi achieved his goal in his first season as Marseille manager; challenging French champions Paris Saint-Germain for the title was always going to be a difficult task, but the Italian can be proud to see his side get the best result in the final game of the season. Marseille currently sits second in the Ligue 1 standings, one point above third-placed Monaco, having scored 70 goals in 33 league games, their best goal tally since the 1970-71 season.

PSG head into Saturday's game against Rennes having won three of their last four home games without conceding a single goal. They have only lost once in the last 12 seasons in Ligue 1, so they have reason to be confident of a win this time around. Rennes had an impressive run of four consecutive Ligue 1 top-six finishes between 2020 and 2023, but have since endured a few challenging seasons and could end up at the bottom of the table at the end of this campaign.

They have spent more than €150m on new players over the past two transfer windows - in January they made the third-highest spender in world football by bringing in seven players for a combined €74.5m - but most of the newcomers have failed to live up to expectations at Parc de Roazon.

Marseille predicted starting XI:

Rulli; Murillo, Balerdi, Cornelius, Merlin; Jungier, Hojbjerg, Rabiot; Greenwood, Guiri, Lowe

Rennes predicted starting XI:

Samba; Assiniong, Rouault, Brassier, Truft; Koné, Fofana, James; Altamari, Calimondo, Blas
