Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a stunning goal as Liverpool thrashed League Two side Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the third round of the FA Cup at Anfield.
His strike came after Diogo Jota had opened the scoring on Merseyside, with academy graduate Jayden Danns and summer signing Federico Chiesa coming off the bench to seal victory in the second half.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot made eight changes and handed a senior debut to Rio Ngumoha, who at 16 years and 135 days became the youngest player in the club's history to make an FA Cup appearance.
Liverpool dominated the early exchanges, with Darwin Núñez heading over the bar after seven minutes from Harvey Elliott's fine cross. Alexander-Arnold, captaining the side in the absence of Virgil van Dijk, came close to breaking the deadlock minutes later when he forced a save from Everton loanee Billy Crellin before Núñez tipped the rebound over the bar.
The Uruguay international did, however, have a hand in Liverpool's opening goal, latching onto Alexander-Arnold's through ball and squaring for Jota to head home from close range on 30 minutes. Elliot almost doubled the hosts' advantage after another slick Liverpool counter-attack, but the striker's shot was comfortably saved by Crellin, before Alexander-Arnold fired over from the edge of the area on the stroke of half-time.
Italy international Federico Chiesa, making only his fifth appearance for the club since joining from Juventus in the summer, replaced Dominik Szoboszlai at the interval and almost made an immediate impact, seeing his shot deflected narrowly wide minutes after the restart.
Accrington threatened to halve the deficit through boyhood Liverpool fan Josh Woods, who hit the crossbar with an unstoppable 20-yard drive just before the hour. Woods had gone viral in the weeks leading up to the game after a video of his ecstatic reaction to the third-round draw was posted online.
His near-miss seemed to breathe new life into the visitors, whose captain Shaun Whalley wasted a glorious chance to score from a well-worked corner. Liverpool responded well to Accrington's pressure, however, with Chiesa forcing a fine save from Crellin at his near post.
The Accrington goalkeeper again denied the Italian in the 76th minute, but this time Liverpool substitute Danns was on hand to pounce on the rebound, before Chiesa sealed the hosts' progress to the fourth round with a neat finish into the bottom corner in the final minute of normal time.
