New England Revolution teenage striker Esmir Bajraktarevic is heading to PSV in a reported $6 million move to the Eredivisie.Bajraktarevic, 19, will join PSV as the Revolution's first homegrown player to be sold overseas.
New England Revolution's promising young forward Esmir Bajraktarevic will join Eredivisie side PSV, the club announced on Thursday.
The deal is reportedly worth up to $6 million to the Revs and includes a buy-back clause for the 19-year-old. Bajraktarevic has scored nine goals in 57 appearances in three seasons with the Revolution.
The deal makes Bajraktarevic the first homegrown player to be sold overseas by the Revolution. However, the Revolution have a history of selling American-based talent to Europe.
The likes of Matt Turner, Djordje Petrovic and Tajon Buchanan have all made the move to European clubs in recent years. The teenage winger made one appearance for the USMNT before using his one-off move to represent Bosnia.
Bajraktarevic joins a strong American contingent in Eindhoven that includes Malik Tillman, Ricardo Pepi and Richy Ledezma.
“We are happy to facilitate this well-deserved move for Esmir, which will allow him to continue his development in one of Europe’s best leagues for young players,” Revolution Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said in a statement. “We are proud that Esmir’s rapid ascent through our pro pathway has positioned him to take this next step in his journey. His success is a credit to his work ethic and professionalism, which will serve him well at PSV. We thank Esmir for all of his contributions to the Revolution, especially the wonderful example he has set for the other young players in our system.”
He will join PSV immediately, with the Dutch club set to return to action against AZ on 11 January.
