PSV have not had a good run of form in recent weeks. They have fallen behind Ajax in the Eredivisie and have lost to the same opponents, Go Forward Eagles, in the Dutch Cup and in the league. Ahead of the clash against Arsenal, PSV head coach Peter Bosz talked about the challenge ahead and the strategy for the upcoming game.
What have your last 48 hours been like?
"Working hard, analysing things and putting your finger on the sore spot, but at the same time staying calm. Of course, you're working on it day and night and it keeps you awake at night."
What's the reason for the mixed results?
"I already said last year that defending starts with attacking. Then we immediately put pressure on the ball, which allowed us to win it back quickly and often didn't have to defend at all. Football is a complex sport; you can't point to one single aspect. It's a combination of many factors that have to come together. It's often the small details that prevent us from winning games. We are working hard to improve those details and I am responsible for that."
Do you adjust things in your playing style based on the results?
“I adapt my strategy for every game, we do that all the time. Those details affect the game all over the pitch. I know my team well and there is no guarantee that you won’t concede goals with a low block. We have been successful with this style of play and the same players.”
Can your UEFA Champions League campaign add shine to this season?
“I don’t think many people would have expected this in the [UEFA] Champions League, especially after the winter break. You beat Liverpool, you showed character away at Belgrade and you win, but the win over Juventus in particular stands out.”
How are things going with the squad?
“There are no changes since the last game, we will train soon and then we will see.”
