Anthony Volpe grand slam: Yankees shortstop's go-ahead blast in World Series Game 4 breathes life into New York

A Dave Roberts stolen base is credited with sparking the most improbable comeback in MLB history 20 years ago. If the Yankees do what the Red Sox did in 2004 and overcome a 3-0 series deficit, it will be Anthony Volpe's bat that turned the tide in their favor and sparked an 11-4 win in Game 4 to keep New York's hopes alive.
Granted, that scenario remains highly unlikely in the 2024 World Series. Winning one game is hard enough; winning four in a row, including two on the road, against a team with three MVP hitters is a near-impossible task. For one moment, though, Volpe gave the Yankee Stadium crowd something to believe in against the Dodgers.
Volpe's momentum-changing at-bat was moment of redemption for the 23-year-old shortstop, who misread a double by Austin Wells one inning earlier and inexplicably didn't score from second base. Volpe would score the Yankees' first run of the nigh on a groundout one batter later, but the baserunning blunder quieted a crowd that was ready to explode.
The New York crowd got its moment anyway, and Volpe provided it. Here's a look at Volpe's go-ahead grand slam during Game 4 of the World Series.
