Yankees' offense explodes for 11 runs vs. Dodgers to keep season alive

The Yankees' World Series hopes are still alive.

After their quiet bats led to a 3-0 deficit against the Dodgers entering Tuesday night, New York broke through with an 11-4 win at home in Game 4 behind three home runs, including a grand slam from shortstop Anthony Volpe. With the win, the Yankees forced a fifth World Series game Wednesday in the Bronx, where they'll have the opportunity to play behind their ace, Gerrit Cole.

Initially, Game 4 looked like a similar story to the previous few games for the Yankees and Dodgers. In the top of the first, Freddie Freeman continued to stamp his incredible postseason legacy with yet another home run, his sixth straight World Series game with a homer — a new MLB record.

The same issues that had been haunting New York through three games looked prevalent once again. But instead of rolling over and allowing the Dodgers to sweep and clinch a championship on the road, the Yankees' offense found life.

Volpe's grand slam in the third inning reignited the Yankee Stadium crowd, but that was only the beginning. Los Angeles did make it a one-run game, but New York answered by pouring on six more runs from there, including home runs from Austin Wells and Gleyber Torres.

The Yankees' superstar, Aaron Judge, also put together some of his best at bats of the postseason, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single. The hotter Judge can get, the more realistic a Yankees comeback could become. While Tuesday's performance showed that New York won't go down without a fight, the team still has a long journey to get back in this series.

It isn't time to panic for the Dodgers quite yet, as they did roll out a bullpen game on the road in Game 4. They'll have another opportunity to close out the World Series, and win their eighth title in franchise history, on Wednesday.
