Curtis Jones had a perfect week, and he capped it with a great performance on Saturday.What a week it has been for Curtis Jones! He scored a winning goal at Anfield just a few days after becoming a dad.

I'm sure it's something he dreamed about the night before the game. He did his new daughter proud with his whole performance against Chelsea because it really was that complete.

The whole Liverpool midfield played well in Sunday's 2-1 win, but Jones was the star of the show. I'm really pleased for him. He's a local lad who's had to be patient because he's had a few injury problems.

His talent has never been in doubt. He's technically very good and comfortable receiving the ball in tight areas. On top of that, he's always put in the work even when he wasn't playing.

In that sense, Jones is the epitome of the modern midfielder. However, the only elements lacking thus far are goals and assists.

I was really pleased to see him making so many forward runs against Chelsea. As well as scoring a great goal, he also got in some fantastic positions to win both penalties – the one that was given and the one that was overturned.

He spent a lot of time in the Chelsea area, and I think that's down to a few things. The manager has given him the freedom to do it, but he also has the confidence and belief in himself to make those runs, and the physical fitness to keep doing it.

Jones didn't neglect his defensive duties, but I think most people who've seen him develop at Liverpool have been waiting for this level of performance from him on the attacking side.

We always knew he was capable, given the glimpses he's shown in the past, but this was the day when it all came together. He must be on cloud nine.

'How can you leave him out? You can't'

He's given Arne Slot a bit of a challenge, but it's one the Liverpool manager will be happy to have as his team have a lot of important games coming up.

Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have been Slot's midfield trio in the biggest games so far this season, but Liverpool's fixture schedule, including important Champions League matches, is pretty much non-stop for the next few weeks.

It's much easier for a coach when they don't really know who to pick. I think a lot of Liverpool fans will be saying that Jones has got to start next weekend against Arsenal.

How can you leave him out at the Emirates after his performance on Sunday? You can't leave him out, and hopefully this is just the start of so much more to come from him – especially in front of goal.
