England take on the Republic of Ireland on Saturday in Carsley's first game in charge of the Three Lions since taking over from Gareth Southgate. Ahead of the match, Carsley was asked whether he had considered calling up Mason Greenwood to his squad after the forward's prolific start to the season with French side Marseille.
He told a press conference: "He wasn't a player we considered. I'm aware of how he's doing but he wasn't under consideration."
Greenwood has scored five goals in three games for Marseille after completing a permanent transfer from Manchester United in the summer. The forward has already been labelled the "best player in Ligue 1" after his prolific start to the new campaign. Former Marseille and England star Chris Waddle has also said he believes Carsley "will be taking notice" of Greenwood's form with Roberto De Zerbi's side.
