Every day that passes for Los Angeles Dodgers fans is a day that the doubts about a Teoscar Hernández reunion continue to fester.
Hernández was fantastic in his lone season with the Dodgers, slugging his way to a career-high 33 home runs, an All-Star appearance, a Silver Slugger, and eventually, his first career World Series ring. He was everything his new team could have hoped for.
Unfortunately, Hernández was on a one-year contract, and he and the Dodgers have been unable to see eye-to-eye on terms for a possible extension. And as a top right-handed slugger in the sport, Hernández certainly has other suitors.
In particular, the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays loom as threats to poach Hernández from the Dodgers. Boston is looking to ramp up their spending and have a promising young core, while the Blue Jays are Hernández's original team and can likely pay him as well.
Amid that uncertainty, though, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Thursday that Hernández still has not wavered in his desire to return to Chavez Ravine in 2025.
"He flat told me “1,000 percent” he wanted to return to the Dodgers. And who wouldn’t?" Heyman said.
But the Red Sox and his old (Blue) Jays (and possibly his old Mariners) are apparently giving him something to think about. A great bat and terrific clubhouse guy who should capitalize on his huge year in LA."
Even if one discounts Seattle, where Hernández had a rough season in 2023, the two-time All-Star could undoubtedly find success in Boston or Toronto. And if the Dodgers aren't willing to bend to his demands, the odds increase that one of those teams will make a power play by raising their offer.
It's anyone's guess what happens at this point. But Hernández clearly wants to be a Dodger, so we know who to blame if that doesn't come to fruition.
