Ajax have announced the arrival of Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros on a one-year loan deal.
The 23-year-old Jaros joined Liverpool in 2017 after being picked up from Slavia Prague's academy. The one-time Czech international made his debut for the senior squad in the past Premier League season, when he replaced Alisson during the 1-0 away win at Crystal Palace in October. Jaros made his full debut for the Premier League champions in the League Cup win over Brighton later that month.
Jaros will take up the starting role at Ajax as 41-year-old Remko Pasveer will take a step back and take up a reserve role. According to Dutch media, Ajax are also chasing 19-year-old Slavia Prague goalkeeper Joeri Heerkens, who they want to prepare to become Ajax's starting goalkeeper in the near future.
At Ajax, Jaros will be reunited with head coach John Heitinga, who was Arne Slot's assistant last season at Anfield. "He is a nice man. From the preseason until the end of the season, he was always kind and helpful. I believe we had a good relationship," Jaros said on the club website.
Heitinga was one of the deciding factors for Jaros to join the 36-time Dutch champions, the stopper admitted. "He called me, and you know what to expect from someone you know. Going somewhere where you know the trainer is very useful."
