Atlanta United is still looking for its first road win in the 2025 MLS season as they travel to Yankee Stadium to take on New York City FC on Thursday. Despite a 2-2 win over Nashville South Carolina, the Doves fell below the Eastern Conference playoff line on goal difference, while the Five Stripes are 13th in the league after a 0-2 loss to the New York Red Bulls.
New York City had another poor start in their last game, but luckily they recovered in time to take a point against Nashville. They have conceded the first goal in more than half of their regular season games so far in 2025, but have managed to score in two of the three previous games.
New York City FC has six wins in home games this year, the most home wins in the league so far, but their only three home losses have all occurred at Yankee Stadium. The team’s last five home losses in the regular season have all occurred in the Bronx, with three of those games conceding three or more goals. Pascal Janssen’s side have conceded five goals in their last two games, one more than they conceded in their previous eight league games combined. The Boys in Blue have never lost to Atlanta at home in the regular season since entering MLS in 2015, although they haven’t beaten Atlanta in the Bronx since 2021.
After a couple of encouraging games for the Five Stripes at the end of May, the month has ended on a negative note. Ronny Dela ended their two-match winning streak in MLS in their last game, the first of their six-game road trip in this tournament.
Atlanta has conceded multiple goals in every away game in the league this season, with the visiting team earning just two points. They have only led in one away game domestically in 2025 and have yet to score a first-half goal on the road this year. They lack decisiveness on the road, with just four of their 21 regular season goals coming from away teams. The Five Stripes are unbeaten in their last five league games against NYCFC, but have only beaten them once away from home, a 1-0 win at Yankee Stadium in the first leg of the 2018 MLS Cup playoffs.
NYCFC predicted starting lineup:
Romero; Gray, Martins, Hake, Lisa; O'Neill, Perea; Wolf, Morales, Fernandez; Baclar
Atlanta United predicted starting lineup:
Guzan; Edwards, Williams, Abram; Lojanidze, Thial, Clichy, Lennon; Miranchuk, Latte Strip; Almiron
