The Phoenix Suns are navigating a critical offseason, facing key decisions such as whether to trade Kevin Durant and selecting a new coach. Despite swirling trade rumors that create roster uncertainty, one move could provide much-needed stability for the franchise: extending Devin Booker's contract, a decision most fans would support.
NBA insider Marc Stein of The Stein Line has reported that the Suns plan to offer Booker a 2-year, $150 million extension, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
This extension would signal the team's commitment to building around their home-grown star.
But is this the right move? With rumors suggesting a Kevin Durant trade and the Suns lacking assets for immediate improvements, some argue they should part ways with Booker too.
This season, Booker recorded his lowest scoring average since 2017-18 and his worst three-point shooting percentage since 2018-19. He has yet to lead a team to an NBA championship, and trading him now, while his value is high, could position the Suns for a stronger future.
Such a decision might upset fans, but it could still be wise. The extension doesn't prevent a future trade, though if Booker's performance doesn't improve, his potential $75 million annual salary might make him harder to move.
