The second leg of the CAF Champions League final was held on the 1st, with Pyramids FC (Egypt) defeating Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) 2-1, winning their first championship with a total score of 3-2 over two legs.
Playing in the tournament for the second time, Pyramids survived a 1-1 draw in the first leg away from home last weekend, then led by two goals and held the opposition to just one.
Usually only a few thousand spectators attend Pyramids' matches, but at the club's invitation, nearly half of the 30,000-seat stadium was filled to capacity.
Sundowns' Portuguese manager Miguel Cardoso had to swallow his tears in the final, just as he did last season when he managed Esperance (Tunisia).
