All the matches of the 46th round of the EFL Championship are scheduled to commence at 11:00 on May 3.
The battle for the championship is between Leeds United and Burnley. Meanwhile, Sheffield United, with 89 points, and Sunderland, with 76 points, firmly hold the third and fourth positions respectively, and their standings are difficult to be overturned.
However, the teams ranked from 5th to 9th still have the opportunity to compete for the last two places in the Premier League play-offs. These teams are Bristol City, Coventry, Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, and Middlesbrough. Notably, there will be a direct showdown between Middlesbrough and Coventry!
Here are the fixtures for these five teams:
Bristol City (H) vs Preston North End
Coventry (H) vs Middlesbrough
Millwall (A) vs Burnley
Blackburn Rovers (A) vs Sheffield United
When it comes to goal difference, Middlesbrough leads with 10 goals, followed by Blackburn Rovers with 5 goals. Coventry and Bristol City both have a goal difference of 4 goals, and Millwall has the least with 0 goals.
In terms of the number of goals scored, Middlesbrough again tops the list with 64 goals. Coventry comes next with 62 goals, Bristol City has 57 goals, Blackburn Rovers has 52 goals, and Millwall has the fewest with 46 goals.
Bristol City endured a tough time in their last match, losing 0-4 to Leeds United, which marked their second consecutive league defeat. They had previously lost to Luton in the 44th round. Their opponent in this game, Preston, is under the pressure of potential relegation. Whether Bristol City can turn around their slump or continue to perform sluggishly depends entirely on their own efforts.
The direct encounter between Coventry and Middlesbrough is undoubtedly going to be the most thrilling game. In the first meeting of this season, Coventry achieved a remarkable 3-0 victory away against Middlesbrough. Five months later, the Coventry team led by Lampard will once again face off against Middlesbrough, which is managed by Carrick.
Before this crucial game, Coventry suffered consecutive losses to Plymouth and Luton, two teams on the verge of relegation, which was quite astonishing. To secure their last chance of promotion, Coventry must quickly shake off their poor form. In April, Middlesbrough's performance was far from stable, recording 2 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses. Thus, both sides need to raise their game, as this will be a pivotal battle that determines their performance metrics for the season.
Millwall was in excellent form in May. Apart from a loss to Blackburn Rovers, they maintained an undefeated record. This impressive run of victories has propelled Millwall's ranking from 13th to 6th. Although their opponent, Burnley, is a formidable team, Millwall will not give up easily. They believe they have the potential to pose problems for Burnley, who are aiming to win the championship, in an away game.
Finally, there is the match between Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United. Despite having several players selected for the best team of the season, Sheffield United seems to have been a bit lackluster in recent games. In the past month, they only managed 2 wins and 4 losses. After a disappointing March, Blackburn Rovers finally regained their form in April and have recently secured four consecutive victories. Blackburn Rovers may well have an opportunity to earn points against Sheffield United, who have already secured the third position.
