Goals from Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke and a brace from Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea a comfortable 4-1 win over Swedish side Djurgården on a tricky artificial surface in the first leg of their Conference League semi-final on Thursday.

Sancho opened the scoring in the 12th minute, picking up the ball just outside the six-yard box before cutting inside and firing a shot that defender Marcus Danielsson could only parry into the net to briefly silence the passionate home crowd.

Madueke doubled their lead before the break with a controlled first-time finish, latching on to Enzo Fernández's pass, and the home side's Tokmac Nguen went close in first-half stoppage time with a rare shot on target for Djurgården.

With the game under control and with Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool on the horizon, Enzo Maresca made four changes at the interval and substitute Jackson took advantage of a defensive mix-up to score in the 59th minute.

Another defensive error led to Jackson's second a few minutes later, but the home side were given a glimmer of hope when Isak Alemayehu Mulugeta's downward header found the top corner in the 68th minute.

The home side came close to reducing the deficit in the 79th minute, but Adam Stahl tipped the ball over the bar with the goal at his mercy, leaving Chelsea firmly in control of the tie ahead of next week's return leg in London and the final in Wroclaw, Poland, on 28 May.
