Sir Jim Ratcliffe's cost-cutting at Manchester United is set to continue as a further 200 staff have been told they face the axe at the club.
The Daily Mail reports that senior staff, including a recently promoted member of the senior management team, are at risk. These employees were told of their possible redundancy last week, while another group of staff have been told in the last 48 hours.
The Mail believes that one of those at risk of losing their jobs is an employee they describe as "a well-respected figure in the industry who brings enormous value and experience" and who has served the club for decades. Sources at the club insist that the decision to dismiss the individual is still provisional and subject to a challenge by staff representatives.
Ratcliffe has been ruthless in his attempts to cut costs at the Old Trafford club. Some 450 staff have been made redundant since the billionaire took over the day-to-day running of the Red Devils last year.
The long-time United fan went on a press tour last month to reiterate the perilous situation the club finds itself in. Ratcliffe said the club risked going bust by Christmas if drastic measures weren't taken to balance the books.
Ratcliffe's tenure has been marked by poor play on the pitch and growing unrest over cost-cutting practices off it. If another round of sackings follows United's Europa League semi-final defeat to Athletic Club, things could really start to unravel in the red half of Manchester.
