Manchester United fans unveiled their first ever tifo before their Europa League clash with Lyon. It appeared in the Sir Alex Ferguson stand and was inspired by their European successes of the past - including the words "never gonna stop."

Tifos are regularly unveiled by fans on the continent but never before had one been produced at Old Trafford. The club worked with fan representatives to create the image - which was shared with Bruno Fernandes - but kept under wraps until Thursday night.

The black tifo includes images of the team's three European Cup triumphs - going all the way back to 1968. They beat Benfica to win the tournament and there is a picture of Sir Bobby Charlton holding the trophy aloft. Peter Schmeichel, present in 1999, and Rio Ferdinand, a 2008 winner, also appear. Bobby Robson is also included with a picture of the European Cup Winners' Cup, which they won in 1991.

The tifo also features Wayne Rooney hoisting the Europa League trophy above his head following the club's success in 2017 under Jose Mourinho. That remains their only triumph in the competition - but Ruben Amorim is aiming to follow in those footsteps.

The words serve to underline the confidence among the fanbase that the glory days will eventually return with the Manchester outfit enjoying a long-history of European successes.

In the end, with the cheers of the Old Trafford fans, Manchester United defeated Lyon in the final minutes of extra time and advanced to the Europa League semi-finals. Harry Maguire scored the winning goal for the team.
