Stade Louis II.

Monaco vs Strasbourg

Match preview

If recent form continues, these two clubs will join Paris Saint-Germain in the league phase of next season's Champions League, with France guaranteed just three places.

A convincing 3-0 win over Marseille last weekend saw Adi Hutter's Monaco move back into second place in the standings, just a week after surrendering that position to Roberto De Zerbi's men.

Monaco go into the weekend one point clear of Marseille, two clear of fourth-placed Lyon and three clear of the chasing pack in the Europa League places.

Their climb up the table is down to their scintillating home form, with Hutter's men having won six in a row at the Stade Louis II, their best run since 2017 when they were crowned French champions.

Since their defeat to Angers at the start of November, Monaco have won eight of their nine Ligue 1 games here, scoring 29 goals, with PSG the only team to take anything from the principality in that time.

It is no surprise, then, that Monaco have taken an impressive 2.33 points per game at home in Ligue 1 this season, and a continuation of that run will see them qualify for the Champions League once again.

Strasbourg, meanwhile, have also been an attractive proposition of late and are currently on a five-game winning streak in this fixture.

The most recent of these came in the reverse fixture in November, when Monaco ran out 3-1 winners at the Stade de la Meinau to record their 50th Ligue 1 win over Strasbourg - no team has beaten the Alsatian club more often in the top flight.

An even better omen for Monaco is that they have won 25 of their last 29 home games against Strasbourg, but the hosts will have to be wary that the visitors are playing at a level not seen for many decades.

Strasbourg have won 14 games and taken 50 points from their opening 29 matches of the season, their best run since the 1996-97 campaign when they faded slightly to finish ninth.

However, Liam Rosenior's men will be looking to improve on that as they have been in fine form so far in 2025, winning 71% of their league games since the turn of the year - a percentage that would be their best ever for a calendar year if they were able to maintain it.

However, they could have added another win to their tally last weekend had it not been for Youssouf Ndayishimiye's 94th-minute equaliser for Nice, which ended Strasbourg's five-match winning run with a 2-2 draw at home.

Rosenior's side dropped from fourth to sixth but remain in contention for a top-four spot, while European qualification looks assured if PSG win the Coupe de France, with the gap to eighth now six points.

Team News

There was some concern in the Monaco ranks last week when Mika Biereth went off injured in the second half, ending his run of scoring in every home game for the club since signing in January and making him a doubt for this game.

Soungoutou Magassa returned from injury to come off the bench last weekend, but Kassoum Ouattara and Jordan Teze are not expected to be fit in time for this clash.

Strasbourg could also be without a key player, with Dilane Bakwa a doubt after picking up a knock in the draw with Nice a week ago.

Mamadou Sarr is struggling with a hamstring injury for the visitors, while Diego Moreira remains suspended, but versatile Valentin Barco moved easily from central midfield to left wing-back last weekend to cover for the Portuguese's absence.

After an impressive display against Nice, young English winger Samuel Amo-Ameyaw looks set to oust Sebastian Nanasi from the starting line-up and will be hoping to retain his place.

Possible starting lineup

Monaco possible starting lineup:

Kohn; Vanderson, Singo, Kehrer, Caio Henrique; Zakaria, Camara; Akliouche, Minamino, Golovin; Biereth

Strasbourg possible starting lineup:

Petrovic; Doue, Omobamidele, Doukoure; Diarra, Andrey Santos, Lemarechal, Barco; Bakwa, Emegha, Amo-Ameyaw
