Jack Grealish scored his first Premier League goal for 16 months as Manchester City kept alive their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League with a 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Grealish scored inside two minutes and Omar Marmoush added a second as City moved up to fourth in the table with 51 points from 30 games. Leicester are 19th with 17 points from the same number of games, 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

Pep Guardiola watched from the stands while serving a touchline ban and several thousand City fans missed the first nine minutes, including Grealish's goal, as they left their seats in protest at the club's ticket prices.

Leicester slipped to a seventh successive Premier League defeat without scoring on another dreadful night in which they failed to register a single shot on target.

Van Nistelrooy also created an embarrassing record by becoming the first manager in the Premier League to lose seven games in a row twice in the last 66 years.

Manchester City are currently fourth in the table with 15 wins, 6 draws and 9 losses from 30 league games. Newcastle, who have a game in hand, are fifth on 50 points after beating Brentford. Guardiola's side will be hoping to secure direct qualification for next season's Champions League in the final phase of the campaign.
