The UEFA Appeal Committee announced on February 28 that it had imposed a penalty of closing some stands at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Real Madrid's home stadium, and suspended it for 2 years. The penalty stems from the discriminatory behavior of fans during the Champions League match against Manchester City. If the violation occurs again within two years, the penalty of closing the stand area with at least 500 adjacent seats will be implemented.

The incident dates back to Real Madrid's Champions League match against Manchester City. UEFA's investigation found a number of violations in the stands, specifically pointing out that some fans insulted Manchester City coach Guardiola. It is worth noting that the penalty of "closing at least 500 adjacent seats" is currently suspended for 2 years.

According to the ruling: "If Real Madrid fans commit similar violations again within the next two years of observation, some stand closure measures will be implemented immediately." The observation period will be calculated from the date of the announcement of the ruling on February 28. In addition to the warning to close the stands, UEFA also issued a fine of 30,000 euros with immediate effect.

This "conditional penalty" mechanism means that only if Real Madrid fans are proven to have discriminatory behavior again before February 2026, the Bernabeu Stadium will actually implement the closure of the stands. UEFA emphasized in a statement that the ruling reflects the dual principle of "zero tolerance but opportunity to correct" discriminatory behavior.
