Real Madrid managed to secure a 1 - 0 win over Real Sociedad on Wednesday even without Kylian Mbappe, yet his absence was palpable.

The 26 - year - old superstar was left out of the matchday squad that journeyed to San Sebastian. This was due to a tooth surgery earlier in the week, which led head coach Carlo Ancelotti to overlook him.

Ancelotti was cautious with Mbappe, as the player was still experiencing pain when Wednesday's game rolled around. It was Endrick Felipe, Mbappe's replacement, who netted the solitary goal of the game at the Reale Arena. However, the Brazilian teenager might find it arduous to hold onto his starting spot.

The reason is that Mbappe is set to return to action for Real Madrid in this weekend's encounter against Real Betis. According to Diario AS, he resumed training on Thursday. After passing medical examinations, he has been cleared to be part of the matchday squad for the game at the Benito Villamarin.

Mbappe's comeback is excellent news for Real Madrid. The team has been severely hit by the confirmation that Dani Ceballos sustained a concerning knee injury during the win over La Real. He is expected to be sidelined for at least two months, meaning he will miss the majority of the remaining part of the season.

Moreover, there are uncertainties regarding Federico Valverde's participation in this weekend's trip to Betis. Reports indicate that the Uruguayan midfielder may not be able to travel to Andalusia on Saturday due to muscle discomfort. This could also cause him to miss the first leg of their Champions League round - of - 16 tie against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu next week. Nevertheless, Real Madrid remains hopeful that he will be available for that crucial showdown.
