Joshua Kimmich could be a hot commodity in this summer's transfer market. The 30-year-old has been regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world for some time now, and is enjoying another excellent season with Bayern Munich. However, it could be his last with the Bavarians, where he is only under contract until the end of June.
Kimmich has failed to sign a new contract with the Bavarians and club officials have grown increasingly frustrated with him as a result. As a result, they have now withdrawn their latest offer, according to BILD.
As a result, Kimmich is now set to leave Bayern as a free agent, although there are still four months to go until the end of his current contract, during which time a lot can change. However, this new development could bring Real Madrid back to the table, not long after they ruled out the possibility of signing him in the summer.
Barcelona are long-time admirers of Kimmich, and although Hansi Flick would prefer to use the players he already has, he could be tempted to reunite with the midfielder he managed during his successful tenure at Bayern between 2019 and 2021.
At the moment, Kimmich is the most likely candidate to remain at Bayern. The two parties are still in talks despite the withdrawal of the contract offer, but should they fail to reach an agreement, the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona could be interested, although neither are thought to be particularly keen at the moment.
