Van Persie came from Feyenoord's youth training and was promoted to the first team in 2001. He made 77 appearances for Feyenoord from 2001 to 2004, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists. After playing for Arsenal, Manchester United and Fenerbahce, Van Persie returned to Feyenoord in the winter window of 2018. In the one and a half years since his return, he made 45 appearances, contributing 25 goals and 6 assists.

Van Persie retired in 2019, and then he began coaching the Feyenoord youth team in 2021. In July last year, Van Persie became the head coach of Heerenveen. So far, he has led the team to a record of 7 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses in the league, with 27 points, the same as Groningen, but temporarily ranked 9th in the league due to the disadvantage of goal difference. In the 16th round of the Eredivisie this season, Van Persie led Heerenveen to an upset 1-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven at home.
