Arsenal's Premier League title hopes were dealt a blow when Jarrod Bowen's goal on the stroke of half-time gave London rivals West Ham United a shock 1-0 win away from home on Saturday.
Bowen headed home from close range in the 44th minute as an Arsenal attack missing a host of injured strikers failed to prevent their first home defeat of the season.
Arsenal, who had just two shots on target and played the final 20 minutes with 10 men after substitute Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Mohammed Kudus, struggled to trouble visiting goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Mikel Arteta's second-placed side have 53 points from 26 games, eight behind leaders Liverpool, who face champions Manchester City away on Sunday.
Arsenal's last home defeat in the league came against Aston Villa 10 months ago and proved decisive in denying City a fourth successive league title.
"It's a big blow. The performance today wasn't good enough. Really disappointed," Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard said.
"We lacked a bit in final third efficiency. We have to see the game back and analyse it but it wasn't good enough."
Apart from a thunderous shot by Riccardo Calafiori that went straight at West Ham keeper Areola, the hosts did nothing with their territorial superiority.
West Ham survived some late pressure against the 10 men as they moved to 30 points from 26 games.
"Everyone wrote us off but we never wrote ourselves off because we know we can win any football game," Bowen said.
