Barcelona's teenage striker Lamine Yamal was in inspired form, scoring once and providing two assists as the Catalan giants thrashed Real Betis 5-1 on Wednesday to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

On a high after their 5-2 thrashing of rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday, Barcelona didn't even need their full arsenal to see off LaLiga rivals Betis.

Coach Hansi Flick rested several starters, including Robert Lewandowski, Marc Casadó and Alejandro Balde.

They dominated proceedings from the outset and it took them just three minutes to open the scoring when Gavi fired in a low shot from Dani Olmo.

Olmo almost doubled Barca's lead in the 20th minute with a fine strike from inside the box that hit the post, before Jules Koundé made it 2-0 in the 27th minute with a close-range volley after a superb through ball from Yamal.

After Kounde and Yamal had efforts ruled out for offside by the VAR, Raphinha scored Barca's third in the 58th minute, finishing off a counter-attack started by Yamal.

Substitute Ferran Torres added a fourth in the 67th minute, latching on to Olmo's cross from inside the area, and Yamal scored the fifth in the 75th minute from a quick counter-attack.

The goal was initially disallowed for offside, but the decision was quickly overturned by the VAR.

Brazilian striker Vitor Roque, on loan from Barcelona, grabbed a consolation for Betis from the penalty spot in the 84th minute.
