76ers should steer clear of Jimmy Butler after ex-teammate’s candid comments

With all the drama surrounding the Miami Heat and former Philadelphia 76ers star Jimmy Butler, plenty of speculation suggests that the Sixers would consider re-acquiring him if given the chance.
Butler has not backed off his trade request since it became public at the beginning of January, which has led to a staring contest between him and the Heat. This could end with Butler rejoining the Sixers, but new intel from reporter Marc Stein would indicate that one particular Sixer may not want to rejoin forces.
Per Stein, Butler’s ex-teammate, Kyle Lowry, grew tired of being Butler’s teammate back when the two played for the Heat together.
"Sources say even Lowry, who remains as close away from the court as anyone to Butler, gradually grew fatigued by his teammate's headstrong tendencies on the floor,” Stein wrote.
Lowry played with Butler from 2021 to 2024 before the Heat traded him to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier. The trade paved the way for Lowry to join his hometown team once the Hornets waived him.
This is more evidence that the Sixers should avoid Butler
Butler has a history of creating drama with the teams he plays for. That includes when he played for the Sixers. Joel Embiid may have wanted a reunion with him, but Butler has undeniable baggage that proves problematic.
The fact that Lowry, one of his closest friends, couldn’t stand playing with him anymore shows that Butler’s act wears thin on just about anyone. He has gotten Miami to the highest level in the NBA, but with their turmoil, he’s reverted back to what he does when things aren’t going how he would like.
The Sixers’ season has not gone as they would have liked, but re-acquiring Butler is not the move they should make to salvage things. He was worth the headache when the Sixers got him back in 2018, but at 35, that’s no longer the case.
