Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he did not want to bring in any summer signings, instead choosing to trust the squad he already had.
However, he admits that - in hindsight - he would have done so with the number of Man City injuries there have been this season.
Guardiola explained: "In the summer, the club thought to do it, but I said ‘no, I don’t want to make any signings. I will rely on the team and I want to stay with them.’
"Savinho came and Gundogan was back, which was unexpected. I thought I could still do it again with the guys, but the injuries, maybe we should have done it.
"But I think the team is really good, I had that feeling… all the players we have are really good, or we couldn’t have achieved what we did in recent years."
When asked if James McAtee - who scored a hat-trick in the FA Cup on Saturday - would be staying at the club this month, the manager said: "I want to say categorically yes, but I don’t know. I would love to say yes.
"I was the one who said ‘come here’. He didn’t play many minutes so far, but I was the one who said I wanted James here."
