Real Madrid president Florentino Perez launched the general election process at the club on Tuesday , in which he is expected to be the sole candidate for his own succession.

"Following the meeting of the board of directors held today, the club president has asked the electoral council to begin the procedure for calling the elections of the club's president and board of directors," the Madrid club said in a statement on its website.

Back at the head of the club since 2009

The 77-year-old businessman should be easily re-elected without opposition as in the last three elections (2013, 2017 and 2021) organized since his return to the head of the club in 2009.

Perez was first elected president of the Merengue club in 2000, during the Galacticos era, before resigning in 2006. Since his return, Real have won five Spanish championships and six Champions Leagues.
