Bournemouth teenager Dean Huijsen's first Premier League goal was the difference maker in the south coast club's 1-0 home victory over a lacklustre Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. The win sends Bournemouth into the top half of the table.

The 19-year-old defender was left completely unmarked to head in Marcus Tavernier's corner in the 17th minute, which was enough to send Bournemouth above a chronically inconsistent Tottenham team.

Bournemouth had a lively performance but were unlucky to have a goal by Evanilson ruled out in the second half for offside. They also had several other chances to finish off the struggling visitors but didn't take them.

Tottenham didn't offer much in the way of attacking play, and a sixth defeat of the season left them in 10th place in the table with 20 points. Bournemouth now sit in ninth place with 21 points.

When Tottenham thrashed champions Manchester City 4-0 less than a fortnight ago, it looked like Ange Postecoglou's side might use that result as a springboard for the season.

They've only managed to draw with AS Roma in the Europa League at home and Fulham away over the last few weeks.Thursday's performance was another step in the wrong direction. They were outplayed by a home side that had 21 goal attempts.

Bournemouth would have been pretty annoyed if they hadn't taken the three points, but in the end, Dutch-born Spanish Under-21 player Huijsen's effort was enough.

Andoni Iraola's team have now beaten Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham at home this season.

"We know we make it difficult for the big teams here," Huijsen said. "This is a really exciting win. Every little boy dreams of playing in the Premier League and I'm so happy to get my first goal."

If Dominic Solanke, who used to play for Bournemouth, had been able to score when he had the chance early on, things might have been different for Tottenham. Instead, he lofted his shot over the bar.

Not long after, Tottenham's weakness when it comes to set pieces reared its head once more. Tavernier swung in a corner, and Huijsen was given a clear run to head past Fraser Forster.

"It's all to do with out trainer, we've scored a few set piece goals because of him," Huijsen said. "It was my job to finish it and I did. It was a goose bumps moment."
