The games in Group A 2 of the UEFA Nations League were all really interesting after Italy and Belgium played out a great match in Rome.
The hosts were quick to take the lead, with Andrea Cambiaso putting the Azzurri in front within a minute. They extended their advantage when Mateo Retegui scored a second goal. But Belgium fought back and Arsenal's Leandro Trossard equalised.
Belgium equalised after being two goals down, making it a thrilling game against ten-man Italy in Rome.
Italy were on top for the first forty minutes and deserved their two goals, but Lorenzo Pellegrini's red card changed the game.
The next set piece was just as good as any free kick you'll see, and Maxim De Cuyper's goal was incredible.
The second half was a totally different story. Belgium came out attacking, but Italy didn't let up. Leandro Trossard's finish was brilliant, making it 1-1 at half-time.
Italy are still top of Group B, one point ahead of France and two behind Belgium.
It would have been really beneficial for both teams to have a two-team match. Italy rarely played as well as they did for much of the first half. Sandro Tonali's return had a big impact. His combination with Retegui and Federico Di Marco put Belgium in a tricky spot. It felt like the summer's disappointments were a distant memory.
Belgium didn't get much of the ball until the crucial moment of the game, when the referee, after watching the sideline video, returned to the pitch and showed Pellegrini a red card, followed by a brilliant finish from De Cuyper. After France's disappointing performance, Belgian captain Kevin De Bruyne made them question the Belgian team's abilities. However, in the second half of the Olympic Stadium, they witnessed plenty of exciting moments, although they needed an extra player in the second half.
After this round of games, Italy is currently in first place with two wins and one draw. France beat Israel 4-1 in the same group, so Belgium can only currently rank third. Next up, Belgium will play France, while Italy will play Israel. After this round of games, Italy is currently in first place with two wins and one draw.
